What to expect in a 1-1 Post-16 Careers Conversation:

The Post-16 meetings are a great opportunity for students to have a conversation about the different choices and places to study after Year 11.

What will be discussed? 

• The types of learning available after Year 11, eg A levels, BTECs, T Levels, Apprenticeships.

• The places of learning available, including Sixth Form and Technical colleges, general colleges, apprenticeship providers, workplaces.

• The subjects and career pathways students might like to study.

Who will the session be with?

Students will be speaking with a fully qualified and impartial Careers Adviser, usually Julia or Amanda. If you would be more comfortable bringing an adult with you, just let us know and this can be arranged. 

Where will the session take place?

The session will be held in Careers Room 1 at the bottom of O block (through the double doors and on the right). The date, time and location will be advised by email, and students will be reminded by their Tutor.

How long will the session last?

About 45 minutes. 

Is there anything to prepare beforehand?

It would be good to have a list of questions ready, but it's not necessary. Students may like to consider their interests and any career goals. There is no need to worry about being shy or anxious, we won't put you on the spot but we will be interested in the subjects being studied and your predicted grades. We will send notes afterwards with details of what we discussed and useful links.

Date, time and location of the session?

Parents, carers and students will receive an email the week before the meeting. Reminders will be shared on Tutor Bulletins and Tutors will remind students of the time, date and location of their session.

This is time dedicated to each student as an individual, and may be the only opportunity during their education journey to have time focussed and tailored to them. If a student cannot make the session due to illness, we will try to reschedule as soon as possible.
